There is a powerful relationship between stress levels, bad eating behaviour, and subsequent weight gain. Our research shows that stress is one of the major issues that causes people to gain weight, or to sabotage their efforts to lose weight. More than one third of people admitted to using food to alleviate their stress, and more than half blamed stress as a cause of turning to sweets, chocolate, and junk-food.
Many of the individuals concerned were not aware that there was a real relationship between their stress and their weight gain. They simply blamed themselves for being too weak and lacking will power.
